Will I have a scar after the procedure?
No! Almost all catheterizations are performed through a tiny entry point of about 2–3 millimeters. In most cases, no visible scar remains at all.
Will I need to stay overnight in the hospital?
The vast majority of patients go home the same day, and no overnight hospital stay is required.
Will I experience pain? What type of sedation is used?
Catheterization is usually not painful. However, patients may experience mild and temporary discomfort, especially during the injection of local anesthesia.
Is catheterization considered “surgery”? What is the difference between catheterization and surgery?
No. Catheterization is considered a minimally invasive procedure, with fewer risks and a much faster recovery compared to surgery.
Surgery typically involves skin incisions, general anesthesia, higher risks, and a longer recovery period compared to catheter-based procedures.
What are the risks?
All medical procedures carry some level of risk. However, the risk of significant complications following embolization and other catheter-based procedures is very low.
Potential risks include a very small chance of bleeding, blood clots, damage to blood vessels, or injury to surrounding organs.
How long is the recovery time?
In most cases, patients return to full routine within 1-7 days, with normal walking and daily activities resumed almost immediately.
Return to more strenuous physical activity typically occurs within 1-2 weeks.
